What I Learned About Holiday Activities from Zach's School Project
Gail Fischler was the first person I contacted 5 years ago as | was putting together my first issue. So I thought it was appropriate that she be on the cover of this issue. Gail always has great ideas and amazing information to share, and her contribution this month is no different. If you are looking for some fresh ideas as we approach the holiday season, be sure to read Gail's article What I Learned About Holiday Activities from Zach's School Project. She has even included a bonus activity sheet! Thank you Gail for all your support over the years!
Holiday Fun with Sound Stories
Jennifer Foxx has also contributed to the magazine on a regular basis over the years. Thank you Jennifer! It seems that I have gone back to her again and again for holiday ideas. So it should be no surprise that she is in the holiday/anniversary issue too. I love her idea for using sound stories and hope to be able to try it soon! You can learn more when you read Holiday Fun with Sound Stories.
5 Steps to a Great Studio Website
I was recently contacted by Janna Carlson, a teacher who also is part of Studio Rocket Web Design, a company that designs websites for music studios. Janna proposed an article related to building studio websites. Janna has some extremely helpful information concerning building a website. Her clear and concise writing style should help even the most tech challenged teacher create or update his or her studio website. You can learn more when you read 5 Steps to a Great Studio Website.
3 Inexpensive Student Gift Ideas for the Non-Crafty Piano Teacher
Over the years part of the holiday issue has been ideas for student gifts. But most gift ideas focused on things to make, which not every teacher has time for or the inclination. So this year, something a little different. I put together 3 Inexpensive Student Gift Ideas for the Non-Crafty Piano Teacher.
Notes with Nick By Nick Ambrosino and Play to Learn: Let's Play! By Michael Katz
Nick Ambrosino is back with new advice in his column Notes with Nick and Michael Katz has a fantastic idea for teachers who are interested in teaching their students how to create their own arrangements in his column Play to Learn: Let's Play! I've already started using his ideas with one of my students. Saying thank you to these two men does not seem to be enough as they have contributed to the magazine month after month, year after year. Do be sure to check out the resources they have to offer, they really are worth your time. Thank you Nick and Michael.
Review: Feel the Fear... and Do It Anyway
| have learned so much in the last 5 years. My teaching has definitely gotten better thanks to all who have contributed to the magazine (I hope it has helped you too!) I have learned so much about working with technology (though it doesn't hurt that the tools are easier to use than ever.) And I have made friends I would have never made if not for the magazine. And with each issue, each challenge overcome, I have become more confident and looking forward to new challenges. (It's quite coincidental that I picked up the book Feel the Fear... and Do It Anyway in the last few weeks, because the author describes exactly what I've experienced the last 5 years. You can read my review of this book in this issue.) I'm not sure where | or the magazine will be in 5 years, but I am definitely glad I jumped in and started this venture 5 years ago. Thanks for coming along on the ride!
