Modes Made Easy
Ernest Chapman (on our cover) shares his thoughts on Modes Made Easy. I've had the chance to get to know Ernest and his creativity never ceases to amaze me. I don't think you will ever look at modes in exactly the same way again after reading Ernest's article.
Thinking! In the Key of...
This is a good month for backing tracks if you want to work on creativity as not only does Michael Katz share a couple of tracks and ideas in his column Play to Learn: Let's Play! But Ernest Chapman also makes some backing tracks available to go with exploring creativity and modes.
Exploring Music, Language and World Cultures
Composer, teacher, and publisher Will Minter makes good use of modes in the music he publishes (be sure to check out his new series as well as his free pieces on his website KOAmusic.com). This month he draws on his background studying languages and the importance of understanding language and various cultures when studying music in his article Exploring Music, Language and World Cultures.
Notes with Nick
Nick has advice in his column Notes with Nick and finally, with cooler temperatures and longer nights teaching for many teachers, it is time to pull out the slow cooker.
Bull, Owl, Lamb or Tiger - Understanding Personalities in Your Studio
I unexpectedly did a short study in understanding personalities when a few opportunities popped up for me in recent weeks regarding various personality tests. As I was listening to one webinar, it struck me that what I was hearing could possibly explain basic things like why some parents never seem to read emails and other important documents. Personally, I have an easier time dealing with ‘difficult’ people if I can understand what makes them tick, so I share a little about what | learned in Bull, Owl, Lamb or Tiger Understanding Personalities in Your Studio. To be honest, this also might give you some insight as to why you behave the way you do at times. I know since I learned what I did, I have been able to change a few things in myself that weren't beneficial to me - because I now understand why I do some of the things I do.
