De Leon Texas
Surveying crews of the Texas Central Railway laid out the town in April 1881. The first city lots were auctioned on July 7, 1881, by Robert Morris Elgin. The Texas town of Elgin is named for this land agent of the Texas Central Railway. The town of De Leon and the nearby Leon River has been attributed to a Spanish Explorer, Alonso De Leon. The first building in the new town was a general store built by E. N. Waldrup.
